<< Back Brownsbank Lecture in Elphinstone Hotel 18 March 2010 Starts: 19:30 Ends: 22:00 Third Annual Brownsbank Lecture. Sandy Moffat, RSA, on Hugh MacDiarmid and the Visual Arts. Contrary to the widely held view that the Scottish Renaissance instigated by Hugh MacDiarmid was confined to literature alone, Sandy Moffat will argue that for MacDiarmid the visual arts were an equally important component of the artistic revolution he wished to unleash in Scotland. The lecture will explore how MacDiarmid’s ideas have continued to influence and inspire new generations of Scottish artists from John Bellany in the 1960’s to the New Image Glasgow painters of the 1980’s, Steven Campbell and Ken Currie. |
